Enforcement

Government of Gujarat is very active in enforcing the law to combat the problem of child labour (see Annexure IV). As stated in Table-1, in sectors like Jardosi Work, Textile, Domestic, Occupation, Hotel, restaurant, tea stall and salt work Government has carried out 19630 inspections during the year 2005, 2006 and 2007. During the inspection in Jardosi work 284, in Textile 272, in hotels, restaurants and tea shop 468 child labour were detected respectively and against that 515 cases were filed. Out of the total case 515 filed – 364 cases were disposed after taking proper action and towards the case Rs.0.60 lakhs were fined for hiring child labour.

Under the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, under the factory Act 1948 (Table II), total 39316 inspection were carried out and total 14 child labour were detected and legal action were taken against the employer.
